Job Description

  • Typically, 2–5 years of experience in carpentry or construction, specifically in concrete or formwork.
  • Experience in working with hand tools, power tools, and forming systems.
  • Knowledge of concrete pouring techniques and how they relate to carpentry work.
  • ·  Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50–100 lbs).
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including outdoors in hot or cold environments.
  • Comfort with standing, bending, lifting, and working with manual and power tools for extended periods.
  • Skills:
  • Carpentry Skills:
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and drawings.
  • Ability to measure and cut wood, plywood, and other materials accurately.
  • Experience with formwork and shuttering for concrete pours.
  • Ability to construct and dismantle wooden molds (forms) for concrete.
  • Concrete Knowledge:
  • Understanding of concrete curing times, temperature control, and mix ratios.
  • Knowledge of different concrete pouring techniques and the impact on formwork.
  • Ability to inspect and ensure that forms are square, level, and well-anchored.
  • Tool Proficiency:
  • Skilled in using hand tools (saws, hammers, levels, etc.) and power tools (drills, saws, etc.).
  • Familiarity with specialized carpentry tools for concrete work, like form-setting equipment.
  • Mathematical Skills:
  • Proficient in basic math for measuring and cutting materials.
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and layout for concrete forms and reinforcement.
  • Attention to Detail:
  • Accuracy is crucial when setting up and adjusting forms for proper concrete placement.
  • Ability to detect and troubleshoot issues with formwork and adjust accordingly.
  • Teamwork and Communication:
  • Ability to collaborate with other construction workers, engineers, and contractors.
  • Clear communication skills for reporting issues, discussing designs, and understanding job requirements.
  • Safety Awareness:
  • Knowledge of construction site safety, including using personal protective equipment (PPE), working with hazardous materials, and handling heavy equipment.
  • Adherence to local safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA guidelines).
  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking:
  • Ability to solve challenges related to formwork or when issues arise in the concrete pour process.
  • Flexibility in adjusting to unforeseen issues such as weather delays or design changes.
  • Physical Endurance:
  • Strong physical stamina to handle long workdays and strenuous labor in sometimes harsh conditions.
  • Time Management:
  • Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines while ensuring work quality and safety.
