JOB RESPONSIBILITIES for Solid Waste General Laborer:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual duties. Assist other personnel in the performance of job duties. Personnel may be assigned to work weekends and/or shift work.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES for Solid Waste General Laborer:
· Collect and dispose of public refuse.
· Assists with yard waste collection and empties contents at a designated location.
· Performs related unskilled tasks; shovels and collects trash and road material; cleans ditches, basins, and other areas; performs unskilled repairs to streets and bridges.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
· Helps clean trucks and equipment as needed.
· Performs routine inspection of vehicle and reports any mechanical difficulties to the appropriate authority
· Operates heavy machinery
· Performs a variety of unskilled labor tasks to assist with departmental operations
· Performs general work in support of Special Events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Solid Waste General Laborer:
Must be able to perform repetitive manual labor in various temperatures and climates. Ability to sit for long periods without difficulty. Maintain a minimum lifting capacity of 50 lbs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Solid Waste General Laborer:
Knowledge of general methods used in the collection of refuse and debris; mechanical operation of front-end loader; Kentucky driving regulations; and safety practices and procedures. Ability to perform repetitive manual labor tasks. Ability to follow general oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships. Must possess the ability to communicate tactfully with the public. Skills in the operation of levers and controls located in trucks. Knowledge of laborer policies and procedures, methods used in the collection of solid waste and techniques, safety practices, maintaining effective working relationships, and handling simple public contacts.
